Tim Draper

I have recently retired from a long career at TELUS communications, primarily in the fields of Sales and Marketing. During my time at TELUS, I held a number of increasingly senior roles that included VP of Public Sector Marketing and most recently VP of Enterprise Solutions for Western Canada and Ontario. One of my proudest TELUS career moments was being the recipient of the TELUS Legends award - an award that recognizes contribution to TELUS business results, social responsibility, team leadership and the organization's cultural values. Tim 2.0 leads me to my current focus as a single contributor, consulting to organizations on the development and integration of technology and business strategy. This focus builds on my work experience in business development and driving personal and professional results in a team environment, including the development of next generation leaders.

My business interests and experience have always been centred around business development and the strategic use of technology to achieve important business, customer and employee outcomes. As I have developed in my career, I began to recognize the importance of leadership in "how" results are achieved to ensure long term sustainability and impact vs just focusing on achieving a goal or objective. I also started to recognize, for myself and for the teams I supported, the importance of aligning/integrating personal and professional interests and values. I would characterize this as an area of growth vs expertise for me that I will continue to develop.

I am drawn to the OWL project because it allows me to contribute my leadership experience and work on my personal development through the collaboration with thought leaders on what I believe is a critical issue for business and personal success going forward - the importance of focusing on and developing meaning in work at work, personally and professionally. OWL has the promise of further developing awareness and thought leadership in an area that will have significant positive impact for businesses and employees as we all strive for a balanced, productive, healthy and meaningful life.

I believe that OWL represents an opportunity for me to contribute my experience, working with other thought leaders, to make a difference in a very important area impacting individuals lives. It also allows me to continue my personal development, learning from new teammates. There is an old saying that "what you see depends on where you sit" and I have sat in a very good chair for a very long time but moving my vantage point will, I hope, continue my growth in a way that can positively impact others. This initiative aligns with my personal mission statement below and I look forward to the journey.

Here’s my personal mission statement:
"I am a strategic broker of relationships, ideas, and resources that drive important results for the businesses I work for, the customers/communities I serve and the personal relationships I treasure. I will enhance energy and focus for myself and the individuals I work with through living my values, focused on positive change."
